I’ve learned something today
- Interactive stories offer a bounded set of choices within a largely predefined structure, with limited persistence, progression, and game-like systems. Narrative worlds are deeper and more open-ended, with persistent environments, progression, mechanics, and interconnected experiences that extend beyond a single storyline. Both can be compared across interactivity, random events, procedural generation, persistence, RPG mechanics, progression, open-world structure, game mechanics, multiplayer, user-generated content, and interconnectivity.
- Forgotten Skies is a fantasy world developed over nearly 20 years from a Tabletop Role-Playing Game campaign. It demos the capabilities of the Protagonists platform to develop a persistent, evolving audio-first narrative world.
- Diegetic UI/UX integrates interface elements directly into the fictional world, so both the player and the character can perceive and interact with them. For example, in Metro 2033, the character’s wristwatch shows how much time remains on the gas-mask filter instead of displaying that information as a separate on-screen interface element. The aim is to increase immersion by making information and interactions feel like a natural part of the world rather than an external layer.
- The Sound of AI Slack Community is a global community of over 6,000 people focused on AI applications in audio and music. It serves as a space to network with experts, discuss developments, share projects, ask for advice, and learn about AI audio and music.
- “A Fourier Explanation of AI Music Artifacts” by Darius Afchar, Gabriel Meseguer Brocal, Kamil Akesbi, and Romain Hennequin explains how AI generated, or synthetic, audio can contain small but recognizable patterns in its frequency spectrum. These are related to checkerboard artifacts, which are repeating patterns accidentally created by the model’s upsampling process and can help identify whether music was generated by AI.
- AI generated music is increasingly part of ordinary music production, not just as fully synthetic tracks but as individual elements such as drums, basslines, or vocals mixed with human performances. This makes simple AI versus human labels less useful and creates a need for tools that can estimate how much of a track was generated by AI.
- The venue had a distinct audio-studio feel, and having a DJ provide music between the talks added an extra sense of exclusivity to this tech event:
