I’ve learned something today
- A 1-minute-26-second cartoon-style video follows Timmy the TPU on his training day before the Google I/O event. Through a playful and lighthearted narrative, the video highlights the often-overlooked physical components that quietly power the AI era.
- At its Google I/O conference, Google announced that the number of tokens processed monthly across its AI surfaces has now reached 3.2 quadrillion.
- Google plans to invest between $175 billion and $185 billion in capital expenditures this year, compared to $31 billion in 2022, marking an increase of nearly six times as it expands the infrastructure required to support the next generation of AI agents.
- SynthID is a technology developed by Google DeepMind that identifies AI-generated content by embedding digital watermarks directly into it. Companies including NVIDIA, OpenAI, Kakao, and ElevenLabs have signed on to support the initiative.
- Tokenmaxxing is the idea that higher AI token usage signals greater productivity and more effective use of AI tools in the workplace. Critics argue that optimizing for token consumption alone can encourage wasteful behavior, inflated outputs, and misleading productivity metrics.
- The “half-open laptop” phenomenon describes people leaving their laptops slightly open in public so their AI agents can keep running without the device going to sleep. Addressing this behavior, Sundar Pichai noted that users can fully close their laptops while using Gemini Spark in Gemini App.
- The venue featured hand-made popcorn, which was the best popcorn I have ever eaten in my life, not gonna lie:
